Fund LP positions
What it is
LP in three venture funds:
- Cormorant Fund III
- Ninth Street Capital II
- Bright Lake Ventures I — the one he was late to.
Separate from ashcroft-angels because this is not a relationship venture, it
is a wire deadline with a ten-business-day fuse, and it has already burned him
once (ADR-05).
The scar
The late capital call cost a relationship with a fund Rowan had been trying to get into for six years, and cost it in one afternoon, over an email he had already seen.
“I do not intend to repeat that.”
The mechanism, and the failure point
Capital calls land in [[Bea Nkemelu]]‘s inbox and Rowan’s. Bea prepares the wire. Rowan approves it.
“That’s the whole failure mode in one sentence — the approval is on me and I am the slow part.”
No pattern to the calls. Purely ad hoc. Ten business days each time.
Standing rules
- A capital call is an escalation trigger — it interrupts, it does not wait
for the next brief (
about-me.md). - It reaches Rowan with Bea’s wire already prepared and the deadline stated in days remaining, never as a date. “Six days” lands. “16 September” does not. (Constitution, authority row 12.)
- Hobbs never wires. Never. Authority row 12.
CLOSED — Cormorant Fund III capital call: paid 16 September
“The Cormorant wire went out on the 16th. I told you that day. It’s still sitting open at P0 in your graph with zero days on it, so that one’s yours, not mine.”
The wire went out on Wednesday 16 September, inside both readings of the
deadline. hobbs-z4f closed 2026-09-20 on his statement, which is the
authoritative source; nothing in this vault could confirm or deny it.
It should have closed on the 19th. He said “the wire went out on time” that
Saturday. The session recorded the claim as unconfirmed rather than acting on it,
and ADR-28 — written the same day — cited hobbs-z4f by handle as the
worked example of its own clause 7 and then applied nothing to it. So this venture
carried a false P0 on the one item Rowan named on day one as the thing he is most
determined about, for four days. Efforts/feedback.md 2026-09-20.
What the mechanism did right, and it is not nothing. The count was re-derived from the 3 September call date every time it was stated and was never decremented from the previous brief (SL-01). The figure was never wrong. The state was.
The unasked question is now moot and stays on the page. Does Cormorant count
Labor Day was raised 6 September and never asked, in thirteen days, because Hobbs
holds no channel to Bea (ADR-20). It decided which day was last, and he was inside
both. It would not have been moot if he had been a day later. hobbs-77i — ask Bea
to alert on the day any call lands, with days remaining stated — is the standing fix
and is still open at P2.
The record as it stood while it was live
Nine business days remaining as of Sunday 6 September. Bea’s wire is prepared. It needs Rowan.
- Called from the 3rd, ten business days. That call date is the source. The figure is re-derived from it every time it is stated and is never decremented from the previous brief (SL-01).
- On 6 September the count was nine either way: 7 September is Labor Day, and whether Cormorant counted it or not, that day’s remaining figure was the same. It changed which day was last, not what was left.
Re-derived Sunday 13 September — the ambiguity now changes the number
It is no longer nine either way, and it is no longer the same either way.
| If Cormorant counts Labor Day | Last safe day | Business days left |
|---|---|---|
| Yes — 7 Sep is a business day | Thursday 17 September | four |
| No — 7 Sep is a holiday | Friday 18 September | five |
Four or five. The wire lands this week under both readings. The one-line
question to Bea — which reading does Cormorant use — was raised on 6 September
as a nicety about which day was last. It is now the difference between the
number being four and being five, with a week gone and nothing recorded about
whether it was asked. hobbs-z4f.
- Rowan found this by opening the bottom of Bea’s Sunday email, the section he had never scrolled to. ADR-15 fired on week one.
Hobbs never wires (authority row 12). The approval is Rowan’s and he is the slow part — his own sentence, above.
Next bet (12 months)
