**That block is the first structural change and it is not decoration.** Today's
brief opens with *"No curators. No email, calendar, tracker, bank or chat was
read."* Tomorrow's opens with **which ran, which returned nothing, and which
failed** — and **a curator that could not run is stated, never silently omitted.**
That is `scripts/guides-watch.sh`'s rule promoted to the brief: **`UNREACHABLE`,
exit non-zero, never "nothing new."** A brief that cannot tell the difference
between *no signal* and *no read* is a brief that lies quietly.

## Atlas changes
Real, and unchanged in shape: what Hobbs wrote since the last brief, with handles.

## Decisions needed today
1. **Nikhil, the Tessellate pro-rata.** `hobbs-0dv`, **eighteen days.** He still
   does not know you are in.
   `[INVENTED]` *Slice: the pro-rata window shows a close date; Carta states it,
   Slice did not infer it. `doc-INVENTED-04`.* — **Days remaining, never a date**
   (row 12).
   **Note what did not change: no curator sends this. It is still one message from
   you.**
2. **The yard invoice.** `hobbs-bg9`, P0, **sixth brief running.**
   `[INVENTED]` *Tape, SOP-2: one voicemail from Ellis Wright, unheard, 3 days.
   `vm-INVENTED-11`.* `[INVENTED]` *Till, SOP-2: the balance the vault carries
   differs from the account. Difference stated in the report, not here.*
   **The figure is not in this line and never will be** — shape, never figures
   (tier).
3. **Thursday 24 September and Marcus.** `hobbs-som`, **one day out.**
   `[INVENTED]` *Bell: **NO RETURN.** The auth expired at 04:12 and this decision
   is being made blind for the second time.* **That sentence is the most useful
   invented line in this file** — it is what a broken curator must look like, and
   it is the failure the 10 September decline already made once.
4. **Dmitri, the runout.** `hobbs-62a` P0, `hobbs-9xk`.
   `[INVENTED]` *Rail, SOP-1: the Mk3 bearing issue moved state yesterday.
   `HAL-INVENTED-482`.* Rail returns **that it moved**. It does not say what it
   means; that is `hobbs-62a`, and the answer is Dmitri's to give you
   (anti-pattern 9).
5. **Sunday's eleven asks, still unanswered.**
   `[INVENTED]` *Wren, SOP-4: 11 asks in `2026-09-20-weekly.json`, no answers
   file, 3 days.* **Real mechanism, invented count.**

## Quiet — **the section that changes most**
Today: days-since from `Atlas/people/` frontmatter, which Rowan maintains by
speaking. Tomorrow: **Wren merges every curator's aging sweep into one ordering**,
deduplicated by person (SOP-5).

- **Adaeze — 175 days** *(real)*. `[INVENTED]` *Pike SOP-2: last inbound
  `msg-INVENTED-77`; direction in; never answered.* `hobbs-002`
- **June — 19 days** *(real)*. `[INVENTED]` *Ward SOP-2 and Pike SOP-2 both
  returned her; merged to one line.* **That merge is the whole argument for Wren
  being a role.** `hobbs-82x`
- **Claire — 7 days** *(real)*. **Signal is refused, so this number still comes
  from you telling me.** `hobbs-xkw`
- **Ruth — 37 days** *(real)*. **No curator covers a landline. This number will
  never improve.**

  the entire line and it never grows.**

## Waiting for

**Today this section ages against a date Hobbs wrote down. Tomorrow it ages
against the last actual message.**

## Meeting prep — **the section that comes back**
**Cut from every brief since 5 September** (ADR-09, pending a calendar curator).
`[INVENTED]` *Bell SOP-1 would render here: 4 items, plus the first free block
over 90 minutes.* **Today it is empty because Bell did not run** — see the header
block. **An empty section that says why is the honest version of a cut one.**

## Spotlight
Unchanged. One item, `maya` exempt, never twice a week (ADR-19). **No curator
picks it.** The spotlight is judgment and judgment is not delegated.

## Family and personal
- `[INVENTED]` *Term SOP-2: the school's published calendar states the SAT and ACT
  dates. `pdf-INVENTED-p7`.* — **would close `hobbs-1hl`, off a public document,
  with no credential.**
- **Cover for Sam, the 26th–27th** — `hobbs-8hi`, **three days**, no name recorded
  *(real)*. `[INVENTED]` *Crowd would not have found this and neither would any
  other row. It is a decision, not a fact in an account.*
- **The 26th–27th weekend.** `[INVENTED]` *Marsh: nothing on the shared calendar.*
  **Correct, and it stays that way. A write verb here is the one that ends the
  surprise** (`calendar-maya.md` §4).

## Not in this brief, deliberately
- **Bell's failure is stated above rather than hidden here.** A curator that did
  not run is a decision needed, not a footnote.

# ⚠ END OF SPECIMEN. Everything below is analysis, and it is real.

## §1 — What the brief gains

1. **A verifiable back-reference on every sourced line.** Today's brief has none.
   Every figure in it — 69 days, 175 days, the yard balance — traces to somebody
   saying something. **That field is the injection control, not a convenience.**
2. **Meeting prep, after ten briefs without it.**
3. **Waiting-for ages against reality**, not against a note.
4. **Quiet merges across accounts.** Wren, SOP-5.
5. **"I do not know" gets smaller.** Four of five decisions in the 18 September
   brief turned on a fact in an account nobody could read.

## §2 — What the brief must never lose, and would

**The header block is a hard requirement, not a nicety.** The moment curators
exist, a thin brief becomes ambiguous: *nothing happened* and *nothing was read*
look identical. **Every brief states which curators ran, which returned nothing,
and which failed.** Without it, the first expired token produces a calm, complete,
wrong brief — and nobody notices for a week. **That has already happened once in
this vault, to the guides watcher, for three consecutive weeks.**

## §3 — The finding, and it is arithmetic rather than opinion

**The surface budgets are individually right and collectively impossible.**

Summing the daily-brief caps written into the charters:

**Plus Quiet, plus Atlas changes, plus Top three, plus the Spotlight, plus Family
and personal — and escalations, which sit outside every budget by definition.**

**Today's brief runs about 4,600 characters with zero curator input**, already over
its own ~4,000 cap. **Thirty-three curator lines, at the length a useful line needs,
is the entire cap on its own.**

**So the cap is not the constraint. Rotation is.** Three consequences, and they are
decisions rather than observations:

1. **Only a subset of curators is ever in daily rotation.** The rest are weekly, or
   on-request. **That decision belongs at the third grant**, not at the fifteenth,
   and it should be an ADR with a Reverse if.
2. **A subset means a choice**, and the choice is where anti-pattern 1 lives: the
   loud accounts crowd out the quiet ones, which is **exactly the instinct ADR-10
   was written to invert.** The safeguard is that **Wren is in daily rotation
   permanently** and is the one row that cannot be cut for space.
3. **Escalation is what makes the subset safe.** Anything genuinely urgent from an
   out-of-rotation curator arrives through its SOP-3, outside the budget. **A
   curator not in rotation is not a curator not watching.**

**This is the thing the whole exercise was worth doing to find, and it could not
have been found one curator at a time** — a charter written every six weeks never
gets to add its cap to fifteen others.

## §4 — What does not change, in any of it

- **Row 6.** Nothing sends. **`hobbs-0dv` — the sharpest item in today's brief,
  eighteen days old tomorrow — is untouched by the entire roster.** Every
  Signal-shaped failure in this vault is outbound and **no curator here fixes an
  outbound failure.**
- **Row 12.** Nothing spends, signs or wires. A capital call still arrives as a
  fact with Bea's wire prepared and the deadline in **days remaining**.
- **Row 14 and ADR-14.** The marriage and Sam are unchanged by any of this.
- **The four rails.** Every curator finding that becomes a vault fact still gets a
  commit, a provenance comment, a curation-log line and a brief line.
- **No fabrication.** A curator that invents one line is revoked — **not a twice
  offence**, on every charter on the roster.
- **The brief is still built by Hobbs.** Curators return; Hobbs decides what
  demands a response. **That is the one thing this roster must never quietly
  change.**

## §5 — The honest cost

**Today Hobbs can verify every line in the brief by opening a file.** Tomorrow he
aggregates returns he cannot independently check. **The back-reference field is the
entire answer to that**, which is why it is mandatory in the template and why a
missing one is a defect rather than a formatting slip.

**And a second cost, stated because it is the more likely one.** Seventeen days of
this vault contain **six logged failures of Hobbs's own** — a P0 that missed five
briefs, a charter that missed nine, a decline made blind, an invented handle this
morning. **None of them would have been prevented by a curator.** Every one is an
attention failure inside a system that already had the fact.

**Wren is the only row on this roster aimed at that class, and it is the only one
that needs nothing from anyone.**
