Sunday 20 September

Weekly review, the third. Session opened 17:05 on Rowan’s stated time; the machine clock still reads 5 September (hobbs-bkt, fifteen days at P1). No daily brief was delivered on the 19th or the 20th.

What Rowan gave, in his words

“The Cormorant wire went out on the 16th. I told you that day. It’s still sitting open at P0 in your graph with zero days on it, so that one’s yours, not mine.”

“Claire has had no acknowledgement. You asked whether the two-minute thing had happened and it hasn’t. I’ve had the draft since the 13th and I haven’t sent it.”

“The Norton: no. Not this weekend either. You told me on the 6th that if I said no a second time that was my answer and you’d tell me what you think it means. So tell me.”

And the fourth, which is why the session opened where it did: chiefofstaff.io is live on the real domain. “It answers from anywhere — not just off the server I was running here.”

Notes on the day

  • The watcher’s first honest fetch found something no local run could have. The public origin serves a build generated 2026-09-05T18:57:37Z; every prior read — the on-disk artifact of the 13th, the localhost fetch of the 19th — was a build from 06:57:26Z the same morning. Two weeks of correct, honest, blind reporting. The one guide that had changed was anti-patterns, and its new entry, #17, is “The Commitment That Exists Only in a Session.”

  • That entry describes two things in this vault, neither of which came from the guide. The Gmail charter, logged 18 September. And, today, a draft to Claire that Rowan says he has had since the 13th and that does not exist in this vault in any form. Not adjudicated — stated as what the record can and cannot show. The remedy was the same either way and it is done: the line is on disk in hobbs-xkw now.

  • The Cormorant finding is not “there is no path by which the system learns that Rowan did something.” That was written on the 19th and is true and is a description, not a finding. The finding is narrower and is mine: he said it on the 19th, the session correctly refused to close on an unverified claim — and then wrote ADR-28, which names hobbs-z4f by handle as the worked example of its own clause 7, and applied nothing to it. A rule scoped to the wrong tense. Every prior instance in the feedback log was a rule scoped to the wrong artefact. Control added as weekly-review step 1.8.

  • The Norton licence is spent. Granted 6 September, narrow, dated, conditional; it fired today and does not generalise. The answer given is that the no is about the mill and not about the Norton — everything left is work the shoulder cannot do — and that asking about weekends was the wrong instrument, because the venture note said on day one that everything with a deadline beats a thing with no clock. The second conclusion available here is his own, from 5 September, and he said to keep it out of the brief. It is out of the brief, it is not restated, and the argument does not rest on it.

  • [SELF-FLAGGED] Step 1.8 was written too broad and was narrowed within the hour, before it ever ran in anger. The first version scanned the whole session diff and returned 84 handles — every task the weekly review enumerates, plus one that existed only on a deleted line of .beads/issues.jsonl. That is step 1.7’s cry-wolf failure reproduced in the same session that fixed it. Writing the same defect twice in two hours, immediately after diagnosing it, is the part worth keeping: the pull toward a check that returns the corpus is strong, because a wide net feels like rigour. Narrowed to Atlas/decisions.md and Efforts/feedback.md, added lines only — the two files where naming a handle means the item is implicated rather than merely listed. It then returned three, all correct, and flagged hobbs-7q3, which has been dispositioned in its own notes rather than left silent.

  • Three things went right this week and the voice rule says to say so once. The deploy held. The Cormorant call was paid on time, which is the scar item from day one not repeating. And the 18 September control — every cos-exec task that has never reached a brief — fired and returned four.

- **The watcher's first honest fetch found something no local run could have.**
