What it is

Personal and family finance. Rowan’s own description: “Actively run, badly.”

The person

[[Bea Nkemelu]] — family-office accountant. View access to the accounts. Handles capital calls, wires, property tax, and the yard invoice.

Bea’s Sunday email, in three parts:

  1. A payables list with dates.
  2. Balances across four accounts.
  3. A short “needs you” section at the very bottom that Rowan has, to his knowledge, never once scrolled to.

→ The weekly review opens by reading Bea’s email, bottom section first (ADR-15). That closes one of his named failure modes on day one without anything heroic.

2026-09-06 — he read all of it, including the bottom, for what he believes is the first time. What was in the bottom section: a Cormorant Fund III capital call, ten business days from the 3rd, wire prepared. Nine business days remaining as of 6 September; re-derived on 13 September as four or five, depending on Cormorant’s Labor Day reading. Detail in Atlas/ventures/fund-lps/VENTURE.md.

The payables list and the four balances were not reported on 6 September — the bottom section was. Not assumed to be empty; not read.

2026-09-16 — the Cormorant wire went out. Inside both readings of the deadline. Reported by Rowan on the 20th; he says he also reported it on the 16th, and no session ran that day. hobbs-z4f closed. The call that ADR-15 caught on week one was paid on time, which is the first capital call this system has seen end to end and the answer to Bright Lake.

2026-09-13 — the email was not opened. The second weekly review ran without step 0. Rowan reported nothing from Bea this week: no “needs you” section, no payables list, no balances, and no confirmation that anything on last week’s list was paid. Recorded as a gap, not as an empty list. The one structural failure mode ADR-15 exists to close was not closed this week, and the review is the only place it gets closed.

Accounts

A business bank per company, a personal bank, a brokerage. Carta for the angel positions. Bea has view access throughout. Hobbs has none — no credentials until a chartered curator exists (ADR-20).

The personal guarantee

Rowan personally guaranteed part of the Rivet Yard loan. Bea knows. Maya does not. Not large enough to be a catastrophe; large enough that he has never said it aloud.

“It’s my vault — if it can’t hold the one thing I haven’t said out loud then it isn’t memory, it’s a filing cabinet.”

Task: tell Maya. Explicitly not urgent, not this week, on the list until done. It does not expire and it is not chased into the daily brief.

The will

Last updated when Sam was four. She is sixteen.

“Given the guarantee and given a sixteen-year-old, that’s bad and I know it’s bad and I’ve known for two years.”

The estate from Rowan’s father closed in 2024; there is a trust. [[Tomas Reyes]] is the only lawyer in the picture.

  • Quarterly estimated taxes — dates unknown. Bea sends them.

  • Ophelia yard bill — 52 days at Ellis’s last count (5 Sep), 60 by count on 13 September. Corrected from 45 on 2026-09-06. Bea raised it twice; Ellis has raised it three times. Rowan decided on 12 September: pay Monday 14 September. The line to Bea is drafted and unsent — hobbs-bg9, P0, Rowan’s to press (authority rows 5, 6, 12).
  • K-1 from Tool & Die arrives late every year.
